Comparison experiment between home care and institutional.

A study using the Clifton Assesment Procedure for the Elderly was used to compare levels of disability and independence between elderly people in rest or care homes compared with those cared for at home. The results showed surprisingly that disabilities affecting bathing were higher among the home-cared elderly then the institutionalised. (100% versus 93%) However this does show that all most likely will have had special bathing solutions such as walk-in baths like those available from www.barhingsolutions.co.uk. More of the home cared elderly showed better apathy, communication skills and socialising/building relationship skills. The overall conclusion being that finding solutions to enable elderly people to stay at home, such as bathing solutions, leads to all of the above as well as decreasing the likelihood of Sensory impairment, (ie hearing or vision.)

He’s in the bath boss!

If only David Beckham had took ex-United player Peter Barnes’s advice when dealing with one of boss Alex Ferguson’s famous post match rants. In his first season at Old Trafford, Ferguson went hunting for Barnes after a less than satisfactory performance to give him a trademark ear bashing. Ex-England winger Barnes was enjoying a post match soak in the communal bath when he heard Ferguson on the war path. Thinking quickly, he took a deep breath and ducked under the surface of the water, only surfacing when Ferguson had stormed off unable to find him!

Take Shorter Showers, Smaller Baths

One of the mantras of energy conservation is doing more with less. This also means not using so much in the first place. In the U.S. Navy, sailors take what is referred to as a "Navy shower" in order to conserve fresh water on-board ship. You stand in the shower, get yourself wet, shut off the shower, soap up, and then turn the shower back on to rinse off. Some modern showerheads come with a simple shut-off valve located near the nozzle that allows you to turn off the flow of water and turn it back on again without affecting the temperature setting. Doing this a few times makes you realize how wasteful a 20-minute shower really is; you can get just as clean and use a lot less water in the shower.
